@dansup I'm curious, With the UK's new Ban on Social Media for under 16s forcing users to most likely to have to ID verify for Instagram and other central socials (including YouTube and TikTok).

How do you think this would effect the Fediverse a whole, PixelFed, Loops and more.

(Also believe Canada is looking into a similar ban)

@sam It depends on how it's implemented IMO.

I'd prefer if Apple and Google verified identities and extended a simple boolean API to verify if they are of minimum age in their territory, we do already have a minimum age of 16 for Loops and Pixelfed.

@dansup Wouldn't that be better off with the mobile provider instead of Apple and Google directly? In the end if you set up a 'kids' mobile number you could have restrictions on certain apps then.

Also what about things like @GrapheneOS as that is android based but isn't run / maintained by Google and a good amount of the Linux community wouldn't touch ID verification because of the tracking and complications these systems have.

I knew about your minimum age requirements but would you suggest a ID verification system for them? I guess if you do implement it, it'll be a switch on / off option if you do.

@sam @GrapheneOS yeah those are good points, I'm not sure which ID verification system I'd recommend or use, I have to do some research on them first!
