I don't know who this asshole is, but it took like 30 minutes to capture him. I assume this is some legendary (... that was randomly in a cave). #pokemon #pokemonleafgreen #gen3 #gba
@scribblemacher lmao congrats?? Legendary Bird (Accidentally) Achieved.
@anarchaeopteryx i didn't know there were other legendaries in this game besides Mewtwo. Certainly not omes just sitting in a seemingly rando cave!
@scribblemacher Well, they're supposed to be hard to find, you just happened to be lucky. 😁 There are two more legendary birds of Kanto, maybe you will also run into them by accident?
@anarchaeopteryx well, I did find the electric bird at the power plant already. I didn't realize it was considered legendary when I found it. (I actually didn't have any pokeballs left, so I was meaning to go back). No idea about a third one yet! Right now, I'm working my way through a mansion.
@scribblemacher If you didn't catch it or kill it, it should still be there if you go back, but they don't respawn. There is only one of each, that is why they are legendary. Some Legendaries are more useful than others, but the Legendary Birds are actually pretty handy. It's not like they're game-breakingly OP though.
@scribblemacher is one of the three legendary birds, so, congrats!!
@scribblemacher At least Articuno and Zapdos are found somewhere related to their typing. In Gen 1, Moltres was just in Victory Road making it the most "randomly in a cave" of the 3. They fixed that in the remakes.
@JTO_is_Typing I'm playing leafgreen--not sure how much was changed up for this version. I'm trying to just play blind. My only source of comparison is Platinum, which I just finished last month.

@scribblemacher Having the running shoes is a pretty nice change from Gen 1, in which you had to wait for the bike to move faster. You also needed to use it from the Bag every time, there wasn't a shortcut button. I rearrange my inventory to put the bike or a rod at the top when I play Gen 1.

The biggest changes to Gen 1 Pokémon were introduced with Gen 2, which split the Special stat into Special Attack and Special Defense, and added Steel-type and Dark-type. Magnemite and Magneton were originally only Electric-type. They took less damage from special moves before the Special stat was split.

A bunch of Normal-type moves also had type changes. Bite, Gust, Karate Chop, and Sand-Attack became Dark-, Flying-, Fighting-, and Ground-type, respectively. Gen 1 also had moves which just didn't work how they were intended, like Focus Energy (and the item Dire Hit), even in Yellow.

Move lists are generally nicer in Fire Red and Leaf Green, such as Charmander potentially learning Metal Claw before Brock (although Geodude and Onix had such poor Special, you could get away with Ember). There were also bugs, like Eevee -> Flareon not learning Ember in Yellow.
