Sainte-Cécile Cathedral in Albi, France 🇫🇷, often described as world’s largest brick cathedral and from outside, it looks more like a fortress than a church.
Construction began in 1282, after Albigensian Crusade, and cathedral was built in Southern French Gothic style using local red-orange foraine bricks — large, flat bricks typical of the region.
Its massive exterior was designed to project strength, with thick walls, rounded towers, and very few openings compared to many Gothic cathedrals.
