"Monospace" has a very specific (and, as it happens, simple) definition.
Increasingly it seems like there ought to be a separate term defined for typefaces that are "basically monospace but the real question is whether or not tech dudes like them in their terminals and fixed-width code listings."
That could quell so many annoying arguments, and furthermore would let people who care about typography mute the term and never have to see abominable phrases like "nerd font" ever ever ever again.
