The review for Virtual On Cyber Troopers on Sega Saturn from CVG 182 - January 1997 (UK)
A bit hard to get into at first, but a well deserved perfect score.

@outofprintarchive I remember taking a trip to Disney world and they had a huge Sega area at Epcot center.
They had a ton of Sega Genesis systems, Sega CDs. Sega 32x's and Sega Saturns set up to play. I didn't want to leave that area. Haha!
When my parents finally forced me to move on, just around the corner from all of that they had some Sega arcade games and that's where I first played Virtual On. It was incredible.
Needless to say, when the Sega Saturn version was released, I played it to death. I remember the night that I bought the game, my buddy stayed the night and we played it for hours into the early morning.

Sadly, I was never able to play Virtual On in the arcade.
I did play House of the Dead 1 a ton though, as well as Sega Rally and bunch of Neo Geo and Capcom games during the 90's.
But my main arcade days were throughout the 80's when we had a cabinet at home. 🙂
Still, Virtual On was one of the top games that was on my list when I decided that I would buy a Saturn if I was able to make a list of 20 games that I really wanted to play.
Creating that list turned out to be a breeze and so I took the chance and dove in.
As so many games from Sega back then, when I finally got it, there was quite a bit of friction at first, but as with all the others, once you get through that, it turns into an infinitely repayable game with tons of depth.
Speaking of which, I've been thinking of really getting into Last Bronx finally.
I only played it really casually back in the day and didn't quite break through that barrier, so I wonder if I could nowadays...
@outofprintarchive I did the same thing for the Wii U! After it had been out for a bit I made a list and told myself that if I could come up with at least 10 exclusive games that I really wanted to play I would buy it. I came up with quite a few more than 10. Haha! So I picked one up on a Black Friday deal.
Last Bronx is something that I have wanted to get into as well. In the late '90s and early 2000s I still did a lot of Saturn gaming.
Unfortunately, by the time I was able to pick up Last Bronx the Xbox 360 had come out and I slowly got pulled away from Saturn gaming.
I still came back to it now and then and played a little but it was more of a curiosity than the commitment that I had poured into Fighters Megamix, Virtua Fighter 2, Virtua Fighter Remix, Fighting Vipers, etc.
I always wanted to come back to Last Bronx and really sink some time into it but it just hasn't happened yet.
