Aaaand I'm officially done with TPU inner tubes. Butyl is where it's at.
Tried them out last year, ripped them out again because I had more punctures than with butyl, and either had real trouble finding the holes for patching them, or had holes that were basically unpatchable. Tried them out again this year, again unable to find the holes, and ripped the valve stem off when trying to pump it up to limp home.
Yay.
Tried tubeless on the long distance bike too, but that was just a mess. Didn't want to seal at these pressures, plugs ripped out again... No thanks. And I know how to do tubeless apparently, because on my MTB, I'm happy with it.
Butyl is slightly worse for riding quality, but it's boring. It is reliable and easy to patch. Which is what I need for rides that last the full day.
(I carry one TPU inner tube on both my MTB and my Gravel bike as a spare.)
