Box Breathing for Laser Focus

When your brain feels scattered, box breathing is one of the fastest ways to reset.

The science: It triggers your parasympathetic nervous system in about 60 seconds. This clears mental fog and sends more oxygen to the part of your brain responsible for focus and decision-making.

Here's how to do it:

Sit up straight. Feet flat on the floor. Hands resting on your thighs. (1/3)

Inhale for 4 seconds. Hold for 4 seconds. Exhale for 4 seconds. Hold for 4 seconds.

Do this 4 times through, then jump straight into whatever task you've been avoiding.

A couple of things worth knowing:

The hold after the exhale matters more than most people think. Skip the holds and you lose most of the benefit.

If you want to level it up, add a 2-second pause after each exhale. This gives a stronger vagus nerve response and calms things down even more.

What to expect: (2/3)

Less brain fog right away. Longer stretches of real focus, around 90 minutes. And you'll remember things more clearly when you need to.

Give it a try next time you sit down to study.
