I was ready to panic, but I successfully installed my country's e-signature with a second try! (There is a hardly visible link to a huge manual in the download page. One page of that monster contains relatively new Ubuntu instructions.)

Also, Kate looks like a promising replacement for Notepad++, thus, so far I have avoided wine-ing and proton-ing stuff on my work/life-admin computer. However, keepass2 is growing unstable, will have to do something in that department eventually.

It seams that neither Kate, nor KWrite (nor Sublime Text which I also I've some experience with) has ability to show various nonstandart hidden symbols. Newlines and other stuff Notepad++ hides in View/Show Symbol menu. I don't need it that often, but when I need it, it's a lifesaver, because problems related to that are incredibly pesky. So... I added Notepad++ on Wine and I'm still in search for my perfect text editor.
