Friends, now I know:

Badlands and Toad Hall are also in on it, and it looks like they're sharing all their customer data with some str8 bars too (booooooo). There is no way this will be unregrettable.

Why do these Castro gay bars have TSA-style face scanners?

A handful of neighborhood bars have installed facial recognition devices that collect and share customersโ€™ names, addresses, genders, and indiscretions with each other

Since people are boosting this a little I feel I should mention for queers not local to SF that all three of these bars are TERRIBLE hangouts for the most tragically superficial mainstream crowd and that this news*, while disappointing generally, is completely unsurprising.

*they've been doing it for over a year. I've not been in like 4 years, it's just satisfying to have my instinctive contempt justified

What the actual fuck -- blacklist those shitholes. WTF I would scream at them at the door. Fuck those bars.

Traitors.

Why would anyone think this is ok? You can take for granted that if your information is online, sooner or later it will get leaked. Or worse still, just siphoned off for surveillance because you're in a targeted minority now.

My city was the prototype for this about 16 years ago. It's brutal. Full facial scan and scan of your driver's license at the door

@ike_seblon you have got to be fucking kidding me
