is it really that complicated to make friends and relatives to download signal? What do they find great about WhatsApp?
I literally sent a link to download signal to reach me out and all the response i get is "whatever app you download they trace you!!???" at this point i use email services to chat 😭 #privacy #signalapp #mentalhealth
@juno0 I get your frustration. I love Signal. Unfortunately, it doesn't work well in my country Venezuela due to the extreme censorship we're now used to. But that aside, the argument I hear the most about why people either don't join or stop using it is that "no one else uses it". So that's why if I ever founded an organization or a business, I'd make it the official chat platform for operations and stuff 🥲
@soberaim Well I preferred to make people switch to a very powerful privacy rather than using an app that collects endless metadata, I was very disappointed after receiving that answer, i really wish people knows how much powerful privacy really is, the frustration is high pretty high:(
@juno0 it is indeed really high, because it extends to other software and services. People are giving stuff out with a preconception in mind that reads "I have done nothing wrong, why would I be surveilled or investigated for? I fear nothing". And that's pretty much the confession of a massive bias. 😐 It sucks I know. But if we care that's smth.
@soberaim Well I've been trying for 2 months to explain the situation to everyone with #ChatControl in Europe but still they dont look interested because all they think is "if i didnt do anything chat control doesnt concern me" or "i have nothing to hide" those people make me mad, I hope the world changes and they realize that privacy still exists, right??
@juno0 "I got nothing to hide" they say. Then proceed to send nudes to their partner on any app they chat on haha as well as politicial opinions on Instagram or YouTube comments. Oh and add location to whatever story they upload about the trips they go on etcetera haha.
@soberaim oh maybe lets add "sending nudes on no E2EE apps like discord"
@juno0 or literally on Instagram haha you name it. Anyways instead of using that kind of scenarios for actually raising awareness I think there should be a way to actually make them feel it's important. That said, the fact that there's some of us wanting to help THEM and protect THEM (because caring for other people's privacy is also caring for your own) is a bit of a victory already.
@soberaim Well I care about the privacy of my friends and family but apparently they can't understand that they are being tracked 24/7, yesterday my dad (being a super negative person about anything he sees online) he literally said that he refuses to install Signal Because for him every messaging app spies on its users, I rightly told him that Signal doesn't do that and is focused on privacy compared to WhatsApp, from what I understood yesterday he prefers to be tracked, cant help him anymore

@juno0 well that's also a factor to consider, yeah. Many people are actually tired of adapting and also many apps have made us lose trust on any kind of software.

For example we both know WhatsApp has no end-to-end encryption at all, that's BS and many people also noticed in one way or another. That makes them not trust anything new.

That being said, it's quite annoying still because if your close family post something that leads to you, well... On those shoes I'd be equally concerned about privacy.

Sometimes many people are just lazy too tho.

@soberaim the only thing i used to hate is them posting my pictures on Facebook for my birthday, or Better people rename my phone contact as my name and last name like why not even know about the risks you can put to the other person too
@juno0 yeah that can happen. Me personally I don't give my last name to many people, especially clients or etc, but sometimes it's unavoidable. That said, the photos part is alright as long as they set some statuses or stories privacy settings BUT most of them definitely don't do it lol
