Macintosh Workgroup Server 95
@NanoRaptor you may not like it but this is what peak performance looks like
@Taco_lad @NanoRaptor
No. Peak shiny!

@NanoRaptor I'd honestly buy one sans the carry handles.
@NanoRaptor What do the optional Skateboard Wheels and Trucks cost?
@NanoRaptor the trouble with these is it’s very hard to find the wireless ADB Connectors
@NanoRaptor wait… NO WHEELS ??
@NanoRaptor Mac OS 9 really wasn’t suited for a resolution of 3840x2160

@dada78641 @NanoRaptor
But after that chime happened you knew it wasn’t ever going to crash

Lotta headroom on that machine

@dada78641 @NanoRaptor
It was also insecure and pretty rather than good. Porting NeXt's version of BSD as Mac OS X was one of the good things Steve Job organised.

Poor as a server OS compared to NT 3.5 or NT 3.51, Xenix, BSD or even IBM OS/ 2 or 1989 MS LanManager / MS OS/2.

I saw plenty of Macs back then (DTP etc), but no-one running a Mac Server.

Linux became a good choice in slightly later NT 4.0 Era.

@raymaccarthy @NanoRaptor what I said was a joke based on how small the interface looks on the image
@raymaccarthy @dada78641 @NanoRaptor as a workgroup server it’ll be running A/UX rather than straight MacOS. with 9.2 in the startmac environment I guess it’s A/UX 5.2?
@raymaccarthy @dada78641 @NanoRaptor (i had one client back in the day, a prepress place, who had an AWS95 running Appleshare Pro. i grabbed a copy of the A/UX install media to run on my Q800, my first home unix was pirated commercial rather than a BSD)

Makes more sense, but still a crazy thing for anyone to buy back then.
@NanoRaptor Such a pain having no button to eject the floppy disk.
@merospit @NanoRaptor so difficult to have the OS eject it, ensuring the OS unmounted it before ejection… pity that got lost for thumb and SD drives…
@juandesant @merospit @NanoRaptor now I'm imagining a USB port that presents itself when nothing's plugged in, and when something is plugged in, it draws it in and hides it behind a flap. And won't eject / spit it out until its told to.
@colinstu @juandesant @merospit @NanoRaptor no need, remember, there's two holes in the Male USB-A plug, just latch into those

@barnibu @colinstu @juandesant @merospit @NanoRaptor gods, can you imagine if it got stuck?

If you do this, make them magnetic (like, latched in place with a little electromagnet), so if you pull power from the computer you can remove your USB doohickeys.

@NanoRaptor this was such an inefficient machine. I had to get up and go to the kitchen whenever I needed to grate my cheese.
@NanoRaptor damn that looks so good
@NanoRaptor I've been trawling eBay of late looking for Quadras, and while there are a handful of lesser machines, the number of apparently working 800 and 900 series available is staggering. All for big money too :-(
@NanoRaptor with those handles on top, feels like it should be painted in army green
