Many bots are abusing websites, including RePEc's. Protective measures can help (at a cost), but it also means that RePEc cannot access anymore data from some publishers. RePEc indeed uses automatic retrieval, but only on a specifically prepared part of a publisher site. It should not be protected, but it sometimes is, and thus some publications are not updated.
