A monarch landed to feed on the plant I was standing next to and I was able to get super close! It was so thrilling and hard to keep my hands steady—not what you want while working at this extreme close distance.

I sometimes wonder whether the animals react to IR range-finders, focusing sounds, lenses as eyes, etc. Cool you were able to get this close.

@bruceturner I usually seem to get these opportunities at the beginning or the end of the day, probably when they need the most nourishment so they’re less sensitive to distractions
