@evan PBS is amazing considering how little money they get, but the constant groveling for money is a major turn off.
All of them have issues - but for historical reasons, reach and variety of programming I picked the BBC.
Second would probably be the ABC or CBC.
PBS ekes it out for me because of a history of fantastic, high quality childrens programming and legendary hosts like Fred Rogers, Levar Burton, and Bob Ross.
They don't advertise it, but they do sneak in some news and current events.
@evan I'm going to guess that this will be a poll of your readers/responders country or region of origin, more than a poll of actual or perceived public broadcasting best-ness.
My guess may be wrong.
I'm British but voted for CBC rather than BBC (I do have a lot of Canadian mutuals and am curious about the country) - CBC seems to have a lot more no nonsense news reporting without the fake feel good filler material the UK's state broadcaster puts on its own website (although it might be as a foreigner I'm viewing a cut down version of what CBC publish due to copyright issues?)
@evan While I find that from and American perspective, NPR is probably the most trustable national outlet we have, I find that it is not the only high quality news outlet.
There is a 501(c)(3) organization called States Newsroom that has my attention the most lately. They have a very clear Ethics in place. They are favoring clear journalism over everything else, they are focused on covering both national and state specific stories. And they are publishing their news for free.
So, while they aren't a public "broadcaster", I think they are a far more reliable news outlet.
