The Moon, Jupiter and Venus over #Bochum, Germany, this evening.

Inadvertent astronomy from the Danish island #Anholt in the near-24/7 live stream https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fFzyfICwzdU by the German TV news agency #News5 which is covering the dead #whale Timmy / Hope rotting near a beach - and on returning to base at the harbor today caught Venus (center) and Jupiter (upper left) several times ...
The planets #Jupiter (left) and #Venus and the #Gemini stars Pollux and Castor above them this evening - with the Sun 10° below and 10° above the horizon - from Bochum, Germany: exactly two weeks before the planets are closest to each other. (In https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_w5MOP0yxo a one-hour documentary about this conjunction, from Austria.)
Inspired by a hot #AllSky7 frame - https://allsky7.net/index.html?&station=AMS216#liveview - from the roof of a school a few kilometers away (I had once facilitated its installation) that seemed to show the evening planets I rushed onto our own roof just before 11 p.m. And against all odds managed to pick the closing pair of #Jupiter and #Venus out of the muck! Both pictures heavily boosted in contrast.
The #conjunction of #Jupiter and #Venus progressing: the situation on the evenings if the 1st and of the 5th of June. Four nights till closest approach!
Three #planets in the evening sky over #Regensburg, Germany, today, when the Sun was 9° below the horizon and #Mercury - in the lower right, above the crane - 5° above the horizon. At that time it was also an easy naked-eye object, joining the pair of #Jupiter and #Venus on the left. After some rain during the day the atmosphere was superbly clear!
The #Jupiter + #Venus + #Mercury view from Regensburg 5 minutes later today, with the latter 4 1/2 degrees up - soon thereafter Mercury would be lost to extinction for the naked eye.
The planets #Jupiter + #Venus + #Mercury (in the gap between trees in the lower right) again, on 7 June from the #Eschenberg in the #BavarianForest where a public observatory with a 1-meter (!) telescope is under construction: https://bayern.naturparke.de/2026/04/29/baustart-fuer-die-naturpark-sternwarte-bayerwald/ - the much smaller telescope here is pointed at Jupiter.
The #planet #conjunction over the #Eschenberg on 7 June at two different timesteps.
So there, the closest approach of #Venus and #Jupiter on 9 June 2026 in very clear skies from Bochum, Germany - over a distant #lightning storn! Full sequence from the evening: https://www.facebook.com/dan.fischer.393/posts/pfbid023dN778vSp7WVW2489woRWpzHRB8VrYPj8ApfqKMfbe1NLNNozbcUxFUWcx57MvoRl
The evening #planets (with lunar crescent) show is coming to an end tonight: in https://skyweek.wordpress.com/2026/06/16/allgemeines-live-blog-ab-dem-16-juni-2026/#Jun18 links to many pictures and also video clips of the #Venus #occultation by the Moon.
