#DisabledSocial #Introduction

Several new people were approved and I believe a few have introduction posts now. Welcome to our corner of the internet!

I'm making this post to slowly, over this next week, locate and boost them and link in this thread so members can welcome them to our server.

Be safe all!

Welcome @corvidprince to #DisabledSocial ! Corvid doesn't have an intro post yet, but still welcome them to our server.

I'll take a break here. I wanted to try to cover everyone who joined since the start of the year. And likely keep the thread going for anyone else who joins and starts posting. But I'm a little dizzy now, so will continue later this week. : )

Please welcome @bugboy , @psystemfailure , @theblackparade , @pyrrh , @nebulacomet -- all new folks since January who have yet to post intro threads.

Also welcome @BedFullOfPlushies who has been active since joining disabled.social, so check them out!

Let's welcome @PapalPenguin who joined back in Jan/Feb with this intro post: https://disabled.social/@PapalPenguin/115917298876532757

I finally caught up with all the people who joined since January who either posted or filled out their profile and profile pic.

I didn't mention the ones who joined that show no activity as I'm not sure if those people realize their application was accepted or not.

From here on out, I'll focus on new people who joined from mid-April onward. I'll take another break before I do that. :)

Let's welcome our newest #DisabledSocial members!

So there was more people who signed up, but I only included the ones that completed their profile and did at least one post. Be sure to say hello and welcome them!

I do wonder why others who signed up and were approved never return to set up their profile and interact with us. Seems like out of five I approve only one will actually follow through and post. Is this fairly common for other servers too?

@Aaidanbird We're finding a lot of applications for accounts that are giving identical reasons that are unrelated to the focus of this server.

They feel 'bot-like, but "AI" is starting to make them feel more human-like.

So you may be seeing some of that.

Do you require people to provide a reason for joining your server? If so, do the reasons given feel specific to your server?

@ColinTheMathmo

Oh, ok. Yes, I've declined a few that were almost identical but with different usernames, their reasoning either nonsensical or random.

The ones we let in are the ones that fit the questions we ask in the application everyone has to fill out, but there's been a few that were generalized which made it hard to tell if it was a human or not.

I worry about accidentally letting in ai bots, but with how weirdly humanlike some can get, how can we safeguard our servers from that?

@Aaidanbird I'm reminded of the problems in Canada with making trash bins that humans can use, but bears can't get into.

It turns out that the smarter bears are smarter than quite a lot of humans.

So it may turn out with people asking for accounts on Mastodon 8-(

So ... yeah. We keep trying, and just have to accept that we will make mistakes in both directions.

Thank you so much for introducing my first post!
I had been struggling to figure out how to connect with people here since yesterday, but today, I received so many follows and mentions. I am so excited about that.
Its nice to meet you! -- Hiro
