Hey anyone still using a Wordpress blog like me, the most recent update to 7.0 added AI junk but it supposedly can all be turned off by adding a line of code or installing a plugin. I have a managed WP blog and the plugin didn't remove everything (I still have an annoying persistent bubble/pop-up for an AI chatbot in the bottom-right corner of the post editor), but it seems to have made things better in general. Link has instructions for code and plugin options.

Turning Off the AI Features in WordPress 7.0 - Shawn Hooper

WordPress 7.0 shipped this month, with a focus on adding AI features into the core of the platform. If you don’t want these features, here…

Shawn Hooper

Update on this for others with a Wordpress.com blog like me: The AI features the 'Turn Off AI Features' plugin isn't able to turn off seem to be attached to the Jetpack stuff. I reported that and the plugin creator has put in a ticket + will be releasing a new version of the plugin that will add support for disabling Jetpack AI features, hopefully that fixes things. 🤓

@buffyleigh I suspected Jetpack when you mentioned the issue! That guy is a megalomaniac who can’t leave well enough alone.
@Moss yeah, seriously. so dumb. i wish i had more skills and could get away from WP.

@buffyleigh Same, whenever I go to try out one of the alternatives that people recommend on here, the start page is like “sign in to github and download the following twelve files, then install them to the Ajax panel of your server, making sure that it’s capable of frammajammit 6.4 at 19 parsecs. Then open the terminal and type in ‘sudo delete all family photos.’ Watch these twelve videos to see the whole easy process.”

Anyway in the short term there are plenty of plugins that do the same things as Automattic/Jetpack, if you have the patience to search them out.

@Moss lol, right?! I don't even know what jetpack does, tbh, it came with the package. if the updated plugin doesn't do the trick, i'll have to do some digging I guess...
@buffyleigh Good catch. I suspect a lot of WordPress.com users will run into the same issue and assume the plugin isn't working...

@buffyleigh I am but not updating any of them to Wordpress 7.x. I know there is a way to turn it off but Wordpress has left a bad taste in my mouth.

Im going to be doing an audit of one of my larger Wordpress sites to see of I can move it to Classic Press (a fork of Wordpress that takes out a few aspects of Wordpress I dont like. )

@Catwoman69y2k Totally get it. I unfortunately have a wordpress.com site so I have no control over the updates. I also have zero skills with self-hosting/coding/etc. so i feel sort of trapped until I have more spoons to figure something else out.
@buffyleigh Yeah. Wordpress.com hosting has full room to shove things into your face and you cannot turn off those features. I would be so unhappy :/
