We do need to ask the question here, who is taking the decision to operate this practice? Is it council staff or elected councillors? Frankly, it has echoes of state-sponsored #ghettos of the 1940s.

This is a huge debate in Sweden too. But the fact is that it's crazy expensive to find #housing in Swedish cities. Nobody complains if a case handler just says "Sorry, can't help you, you have no money". The problem starts when they say "There is cheap housing in Buggledon-Crikey, ten miles from the nearest train station". What's better, really?

It's not just a case of rich Swedish municipalities dumping poor immigrant families in dying small towns. Young people from comfortable working-class backgrounds around major cities can't find affordable housing there either.

Because Swedish society is set up to only build housing that someone can make a profit from.
