For those of you who live in an area where you need to keep a store of fresh water for emergencies, what’s your system? I bought a few flats of plastic water bottles, but I never drink bottled water so I feel like I’m just going to be buying and then tossing these (or at most using them to water plants).

Ideas?

@minmi we do not need to store fresh water luckily, but nonetheless a few years ago I bought some collapsible water canisters. Perhaps this is an option for you? I don't know how much space you have obviously or perhaps a garden where you could use the water, when it needs to be changed.
@minmi
I bought 5gal collapsible bags. storing them on some shelving off the floor in my garage. before that we would buy 2L bottles of seltzer and then refill with tap water.
@minmi in my experience earthquake risk is inversely correlated to apartment size. I wish neighbourhoods/blocks could organize to do this communally. (Preparing ways to operationalize that wish as we speak.)
