If I want to watch movies I have ABC iview, SBS On Demand, and french channels like www.tv5mondeplus.com/en ā¦ on top of torrents of course
Youtube isnāt just mainstream movies though, the brisbane channel isnāt a movie or tv show, so itās not torrentable
Youtube and Google Maps are pretty much the only major big tech website left that I still use

CatoblepasThe library is still free, and probably has access to a lot of streaming. If your local one doesnāt, a lot of large libraries will let you sign up for a card even if you donāt live nearby if you just show up in person to sign up. Although some donāt even require that anymore due to COVID precautions.
I live 2 blocks from my local library and I absolutely love it. I take my 2 year old daughter every week. Sheāll play in the activity room, weāll go to a story time and check out 6-7 books for the week. Iāll peruse the video game section, check out a movie if they have something on my to watch list. I havenāt gotten to use their maker space yet but Iām itching to. They also offer streaming, ebooks and audiobooks through Libby and Hoopla. 11/10 would recommend the library.

I pretty much only use it for music, and most of the extensions have still gotten me by. At least long enough to rip the song to my hard drive for offline use. Fuck $16 a month. Thatās ridiculous. For $16 I could get an album or two every month and not have to worry about some buffering bullshit. After a year, not only would I be supporting the artists directly and avoiding paying paying a scummy company, that Iād actually have some discographies built up permanently.

I actually did just buy a lot of albums in the last 48 hours, once I realized that I could bc my tax return lol. Before that I was pretty broke and wishing I could actually buy some. A light bulb finally went off and I was like oh yeah, I got some money now :p I do like to test drive a lot to see if I really vibe with it also. if itās something that actually touches me, I usually wind up wanting to have a higher quality version stored locally.
How would someone, hypothetical, do that ripping part?
I buy the discs from my disc shop then use soulseek to download the discs already ripped.
Other times I simply buy their discs from bandcamp so I get the digital files directly.
Kind of janky but maybe something like this? soundclouddl.cc or something like this perhaps github.com/archisvaze/arcdlp if you just use a search engine to look up YouTube to MP3 or something to that nature or you can find a lot of different results. I think they even make browser extensions as well.

You may have been on the version that was possibly exploited he stopped updates to that one and advised people to manually install the fixed one.
I think he was being paranoid though, he did it because his PC was hacked and thereās no evidence anything was actually compromised on Smarttube.

But once I installed the beta itās been working like a dream. Maybe I should delete the stable version and try again, but itās working now and Iām incredibly lazy.

Not sure I know the guy is Ukrainian and itās impressive he gets so many updates out considering. But yeah I only know of the scare mainly because of reddit making a huge deal about it and claiming the sky was falling etc.

Youtube already makes more money than Disney, right? So of course they ramp up prices. Itās a successful product after all and the line must go up. The more money it makes the more expensive itāll get.
Thatās why you should never give them anything in the first place and use an Adblocker instead.
I would also recommend Sponsorblock because most Youtube sponsorships are overpriced garbage or complete scams. It honestly seems too good to be true but itās open source and apparently can cover operational costs on just donations. What I really like about Sponsorblock is how you can curate your experience to a T. It lets you skip all sort of content that you may like such as self-promotions, credits, previews/flashbacks, intros, and more. It comes really close to the internet highways concept I have long only dreamed about where youāre served exactly what you want and you donāt need a silly AI agent to do any of it.
DeArrow is another useful extension for Youtube, created to remove clickbait from your feed. It removes thumbnails and changes video titles based on user suggestions similar to Sponsorblock.
Youtube āPremiumā could never give you this experience for all the money in the world.

I generally use YouTube without logging in on the PC and clean history every now and then. No matter which videos I watch first, the feed gets populated with such amount of garbage, that it kinda surprises me. Softcore porn, cop and gun shit, shitty political stuff, itās flabbergasting.
Thatās unfortunately what the algorithm gives when it doesnāt know very much about you: bottom of the barrel slop. Iām the opposite and stay logged in, but Iām also diligent about removing items from my watchlist if I didnāt like them, or if I see theyāre skewing the algorithm.
Same. Iāve got a decade of watch history at this point, the algorithm is pretty good at showing me videos that are actually relevant to my interests. Every once in a while Iāll click on something outside my norm and the algorithm will shake things up, but if itās not something Iām interested in then I just hide the first couple videos and itāll readjust again.
