It's absolutely infuriating that blue-state governors do not see this as a once-in-a-generation opportunity to launch their schools into the stratosphere. And I don't mean that in a greedy way. I mean that they could actively work to save US higher ed AND make their schools even better.

Like, we as a country are better w higher ed--our greatest source of soft and hard power ever--being supported in every state. Inarguably. But state-level GOP have made it clear they are done with that. That's the current political reality. So GIVEN THAT, blue states should be hiring like mad.
Of course, they aren't. They seem to be cutting budgets too. But if they went on a hiring tear, their schools get better, American higher ed gets a lifeline, and hundreds of profs in GOP states could salvage their increasingly-vulnerable careers.
