As there's lots of gorse in Devon, there's also a fair amount of this parasitic climber Common Dodder (Cuscuta epithymum). It has no green chlorophyll, only these threadlike red stems, leaves reduced to small scales and small pink flowers in late summer. Quite a sight when first encountered.
