Kind of a disappointing end to my latest quilt. I had to resort to hand quilting it because after struggling through a multitude of settings with three different walking feet on two different machines I couldn't get it to stop bunching up after behaving nicely for long stretches. And then there was the random thread breaking. Second image shows the look I was going for on my test piece, though with not as many lines. #quilting #sewing #menwhoquilt #mensewtoo #bleh
The next quilt HAS to be machine quilted so I've got to get this sorted out somehow.

@DriftlessRoots I know it's not what you wanted, but the big stitches look really great

Are you interested in any advice on the thread problems?

@inarticulatequilter Thank you and sure! Though I don't know how to approach making adjustments when it was fine on the sample and also on the actual quilt before it would suddenly go south, so to speak.

@DriftlessRoots I had two thoughts - one, because it kept happening on various machines, that your thread is old. Old thread can turn brittle

The other idea, because it was fine then not, is that your bobbin is too full. This happened to me recently - the overfull bobbin would cause the thread to slip out of the housing every once in a while after sewing perfectly

And sometimes it’s just *everything* not playing well together. 🀞🏻 the next mix works better. Good luck! πŸ€

Looks great from here. I'm always astonished by the work that goes into a quilt. I've only done small, short pieces with our machine. The skill required to do complex stuff properly is not trivial.
@DriftlessRoots sounds like it could be a tension problem on the machine or a dirty (thread fluff) spot below the cover plate or around the bobbin. Might be worth looking
