"Pelosi’s endorsement allowed Chan to expand her potential vote base so in addition to her strength among Chinese American voters and competing with Chakrabarti for progressive votes, Chan could also win some votes from more centrist and even conservative voters who admire Pelosi but never cottoned to Wiener." Connie Chan and Daniel Lurie Are the Biggest Winners from San Francisco's Election

Despite an otherwise strong night for conservative forces in San Francisco, Connie Chan finished a strong second in the race for Congress and secured a spot in the November runoff.

@LincolnMitchell A good analysis, IMO.

I'm an #AsianAmerican & support Chan but I think that she will be a weak rep in Congress if she wins. I dislike Weiner because he obviously panders to monied interests but think he will be more effective in that role.

It's no secret that Pelosi is not "fond" of Weiner. I think that Pelosi waited too long to endorse Chan in the primary but if he puts her Democratic weight on the scale to help Chan, Weiner will be in trouble but, as noted in your analysis, this is not necessarily a "good thing" for SF.

I think that Chan would be more effective staying on the BoS & Weiner in Congress but a win for Chan in the Congressional race will significantly change SF politics.
