LR2IR was still in active use — indeed despite the source code to Lunatic Rave 2 being lost over a decade ago and alternative BMS clients like beatoraja emerging, the vast majority of the Japanese playerbase never migrated.

Not only that, LR2IR was the longest running service of its kind and it was the closest thing to a repo for songs and charts ("sabuns") in a community that has resisted any attempts at centralization- archiving dl links to obscure songs that have otherwise not been archived.

And so June 1st has passed and despite many serious offers to take over administration and hosting, LR2IR is now closed with no archived version offered by the administrators. What is left in its wake?

Well, for one, the possibility of no working archive was not acceptable to the community so a team headed by zk and seraxis managed to scrape the vast majority of the site and has released both raw archival data and a nice browsable site at lr2ir.com

GOMazk has been silently working away at a clean room reimplementation of LR2 & with the closure of LR2IR has finally released it to the world. github.com/GOMazk/OpenLR2 There's some cherrypicked enhancements, but otherwise it's LR2 warts and all- now with a maintainable codebase.
