now seems like a relevant time to bring up again how i think we should have a Ministry of Software that writes all the code needed for government purposes

having in-house web development seems like a pretty sensible thing for councils to have as well, as there will always be need for it

@cestfleuve Not that long ago it was relatively commonplace for govt agencies to have in-house IT departments, and many of them even developed applications. They di things like looking after databases housed on servers *in this country* and were public servants...therefore accountable to the public.

No one will ever convince me that the current state of affairs is an improvement, just like trying to tell me that selling off our water infrastructure to private capital won't lead to shit in our drinking water.

The Wanganui Computer was famously located within our islands and employed a good number of locals to maintain.

No shipping the revenue off overseas for them!
