Last night the city put paint back on our streets.

Annoyingly they decided to do it close to midnight so it woke up the neighbourhood, but I’m not going to complain too much as the crossings were getting dangerous with no markings.

I had hoped new paint would mean drivers respected the space people on foot needed to cross safely, but nope. This photo is one such example, but other drivers were doing it too.

The driver of that yellow bus saw me taking a photo and seemed to get quite irate with me. Guess he was the real victim here and I’m the bad guy.

@heliomass in Germany he would've walked out and punched you. Taking pictures of people, even if out in public, can easily be seen as a privacy invasion. I don't like strangers pointing their phones at me either
@heliomass This happens to me all the time! A driver will be doing something illegal / endangering others, but they'll yell at me that taking their photo is illegal. It's baffling!
@uneabeille It’s entitlement I think, and the fact people see their vehicles as private space.
@heliomass @uneabeille I disagree. Their reaction is fear. They got caught, there could be consequences for it, thus the unfriendly reaction.
@llanero24 @uneabeille You might be right. Maybe they’ll be less likely to do it next time?
@heliomass Given the number of repeat offenders I see, I'm not hopeful. Some people are extremely brazen. An Uber driver in a Tesla tried to side-swipe me on purpose today because I dared to tap on his window as I scooted by on the part of the bike lane he wasn't parked in.
@uneabeille @heliomass Hopefully, they learned the lesson. Note: I've done some -tiny- infractions myself, unwillingly though. Point is: We all make mistakes.
@heliomass Is it just me, or are school bus drivers some of the worst, most agressive drivers on the roads?
@petergarner I don’t know if they’re more aggressive than cab drivers!
@heliomass Perhaps not. Maybe it's just that getting close-passed by a massive yellow bus leaves a bigger impression. 😂
@petergarner Oh for sure that’s going to do it 😅 I’ll have to defer to your experience then. I tend to avoid mixing with motorists when I’m cycling, because it only takes one nutter.

@heliomass Oh believe me, me too! But in my experience, school buses are some of the most commonly seen large vehicles on residential streets (by necessity), so sometimes they're unavoidable.

And after a few hairy experiences with school bus drivers, I tend to observe them with a more critical eye, even when I’m driving myself. So I suppose that may also introduce some bias.

But you're right. The best solution is to just avoid motor vehicles altogether as much as possible.
