“Most rock songs sound a little better done polka style”
🤣🪗🤘🏼
And yeah Dick Contino had the kids screaming
Until he went AWOL after getting drafted to fight in the Korean War and almost ended his career. Elvis later learned to shut up and ship out

That’s a fantastic interview with Al. So many charming details
I’d only add that I think one of the big reasons why the #Accordion failed in the 1950s when rock ‘n’ roll came in is because they’re hard to amplify
Whereas you can plug-in an electric organ or a guitar and they couldn’t play really loud very easily
Accordions were kind of a pain in the ass, and boomers didn’t see young people making them work
So they joked about them until they got old
@AccordionBruce @LaughingSquid al laid it all off on Welk. One of the most hilarious things is when PBS preempts Lawrence Welk for a pledge drive. They are like clockwork every 3 months for a week and the weekend on both ends. Been going on that way for centuries.
Does not stop them calling and chewing my ass they are missing watching their show that has not released an original episode since the invention of fire . Fuck Lawrence Welk and his stinking bubbles. 😂

Personally I ponder whether #WeirdAl himself has helped maintain the boomer shtick of the accordion being for geeks, well beyond the joke’s sell-by date
What percentage in his audience now has ever heard of Lawrence Welk?
He himself might be part of the reason young people might laugh (or cheer 🤷🏻♂️ ) when they see an #accordion 🤡
Who else is particularly ironically “uncool” (though rightfully adored) and has been playing 🪗 on TV these last thirty years?
