abstract landscape No N of N by me (probably quite wasted) from 197?
@nrmacdonald
Mate you should put on a show in a gallery and make cash
After all we need a new banksy, right?
@spytfyre
Naw this was just the shite I doodled when I was resting up from hours and hours of IBM system level assembly code. also which was best done slightly stoned, Self medicating for efficiency is a real thing when you really need to focus. for folk on what is now called "the spectrum."
@nrmacdonald
You did IBM and spectrum simultaneously? Didn't they get jealous?
Seriously if you have more, frame them and put them up in a cafe and make even £20 each someone will buy them
Then you can get stoned again with the money 😄
@spytfyre
Most of the serious "systems programmers" I knew were like me, intensely focused and socially awkward, ie spectrum-ish.
I'm no interested in selling these, but share them if you want.
@nrmacdonald
Thanks for the story to go with
I think the spectrum back then was badly handled and computer jobs, especially the focused machine language types, may have saved many from the hospitals like Bangour...
@spytfyre
Precisely. One of my seniors was instrumental in teaching me to focus my frustration energy into productive rather than anger driven outrage A lesson he acquired from those before him. It served me well.
@nrmacdonald
When the going gets tough
The tough don't even take the time to roll up their sleeves they just get elbow deep and muck in
@spytfyre
exact
@nrmacdonald
Actually given me a lot to think about
An epiphany followed by another realisation
Then an oh shit moment

@spytfyre
I knew lots of application programmers/analysts etc that found their places of not just employment but refuge in development shops. Their skills needed and valued without regard to their lack of sales department qualities.

There have been repercussions of late.

@nrmacdonald sales is a different beast altogether
My dad was advertising manager which meant he had to sell advert space...
Needles to say he pushed me away from my plan to be a journalist

@spytfyre

My father was a ships engineer, he told my brother and me to "stay away from the ships," my brother enlisted in the navy and I went to work doing computer work for a maritime classification agency.
Never listen to yer Da.

@nrmacdonald
I wiz an eejit an listened tae thum baith though
@spytfyre
youser no an eejit,
I was just lucky the auld git died when I was 14, so I was doing for masel from then and found my way.
@spytfyre
addendum
There is no such thing as a self made man.
Yes, I did a great deal of manual labour early on but I had benefactors that appreciated my work ethic, instilled by both my parents, and helped me get an education and promoted my well being.
I've been a very luck man.
