☁️🚌 On May 21, we took a crew of PhD researchers from the Polytechnic University of Milan on a datacenter tour through the hyperscale landscape.

Turned out to be perfect timing; they’re dealing with the same infrastructural creep back home, and some are already directly advising local politicians on how to approach these incoming projects.

The programme began on the bus with a presentation by Marloes de Valk contextualising the infrastructural and historical dimensions. Hackers and Designers also facilitated a workshop, using electromagnetic field detection wands that light up when activated.⚡️

We then walked the data centre perimetre with Niels Schrader, followed by a drive past Microsoft’s newly constructed facilities and Google’s existing infrastructure.

The knowledge exchange proved valuable for both groups navigating similar questions around hyperscale development. 🖥️

@thehmm It was a great exchange :) we shared stories and resources on how to push back, such as the Northstar data centre policy toolkit by @ainowinstitute.org + @Aepasek 's Getting into fights with data centres + Kairos the Data Center Site Fight Guide. Those are all US oriented. @lenuageetaitsousnospieds + @tunubesecamirio and resistance.discussed at #AMRO26 by @servus are sharing EU strategies 🔥
