In 1994, I visited West Papua, the western half of the island of New Guinea. I was in graduate school doing thesis research. I came within 60 miles of this mountain--I was obsessed with seeing the only glacier topped mountain between the Himalayas and the Andes. But due to the insurgency, i couldn't reach it... I always told myself someday I'd return to see that glacier but it looks like I will have misssed my chance. #indonesia
