@jamoquanty @newsguyusa I'm a realist when it comes to people in positions like this. The current pope is hella better than Ratizzinger (SP) and has made concessions towards many communities which have been attacked by the Catholic church in the past. And in my many years of interfaith dialogue on the grown Catholics are hella more chill than the born again mega-church nutters. Praise Bob!

Call me when he steps up for global availability of proper, free reproductive healthcare (that damned well includes contraceptives and abortions), rounds up the thousands of child abusing clergy, and gets the church to PAY REPARATIONS to the communities they've enslaved and waged genocide against (which damned well includes trans people). Oh, and maybe confront the culture of abuse that stems from conflating love with fear, suffering with virtue, sex with filth, and women with evil.

Till then, the current figurehead of one of the most destructive institutions on the planet can fuck right off with his insultingly small, performative mercies.

It's about power and control.

In my reading the last woman to really hold power and sway in the system was Hildegarde Von Bingen, her letters are a masterclass in cutting through male dominant corruption.

So then we got Aquinas & Pope John and close on 1000yrs of absolute and total corruption, with the system adjusted to ensure any future Hilde's would be raped and burnt until the idea of a woman with power was just gone.

Malleus Malificarum as an intro text, it's made of Aquinas who made the declaration that malificurum should be punished by the state and was taken up gleefully by Pope John who canonized his horrific doctrines of almost incomprehensible idiocy.

Consider since the time of Aquinas to the present day how many people without penises have held real power in the system.
