Re: UFC and the ballroom - the White House itself isn't sacred. It was built with slaves and is a symbol of power that denigrates an egalitarian ideal of participatory democracy. What should be sacred is the idea of a democracy that represents everyone. And, well, I've got bad news about that too.
Obviously both the ballroom and the UFC nonsense being erected right now represent incredible levels of corruption. I'm not making light of that. But sometimes I feel like the building itself has become a totem - and, truly, ideas are more important than physical symbols.
