Today is #MothersDay in Poland, and I want to take this moment to appreciate the things my mom would tell me when I was growing up. It was only as an adult that I learned that my mom was really special and a lot of parents aren't so emotionally mature.

Things my mom would tell me:

- "You can do whatever you want, but you have to predict and accept the consequences of your choices".

Things my mom would tell me:

- "If you have a problem, you can call me at any time of the day or wake me up at any time of the night. I might not be able to help you, but I will listen."

Things my mom would tell me:

- "Every time I hear you say something you hate about your body, you have to tell me 3 things that you like about your body to balance it out".

Things my mom would tell me:

- "You can date whoever you want. Man, woman, black, white. I will accept to our family anyone that makes you happy. But they must make you happy." (context: Poland in the year 2008)

Things my mom would tell me:

- "My only expectations for your education is to do the bare minimum to get from one grade to another until you're 18. You can study as much or as little as you want. Good grades aren't everything."

Things my mom would tell me:

- "You don't have to go to sleep at a specific hour. You have to wake up at a specific hour. I won't intervene in your sleep schedule if you go to school punctually. You have to learn to manage it yourself".
