I've suggested guillotine as a solution to various problems in the past, and facetiously replied to many an argument with a link to the Wikipedia page for the guillotine.

But this article. This stopped me. Made me think. Hex is right. If you can use a guillotine, you've already won, and are just enacting violence.

This article is worth a read.

Reminds me of a write-up that's been on my desk for a while already which actually uses the French Revolution of things going wrong. Like, people who advocate for guillotines usually forget that the aftermath of the Revolution was a "Reign of Terror" followed by Napoleon's Empire (and basically WW0).

The write-up later asks the following:

  • After your current adversary is dealt with, who's next?
  • How do you treat people who share your thoughts but not your methods?
  • How would you act if you ended up on the receiving end of your approach?
  • Some "revolutionaries" would give terrifying answers to these.

I think lumping revolutions all together isn't quite right. I think the biggest distinguishing factor is the class character of the revolutions.
