The kitchen reno has begun
More destruction. Luckily, the unit next door is changing hands so is unoccupied at the moment, otherwise I don't think the early Sunday morning banging would be appreciated.
Destruction complete. That was a lot quicker than I expected.
Someone else will be removing the floor tiles tomorrow.
Ready for today's Festival Of The Dust
7 long hours of jack hammering and grinding later, the floor tiles are gone and day one of The Festival Of The Dust is over.
Day two of The Festival Of The Dust is underway with the plumbers turning up almost on time and about to start making a mess of the brick walls.
The Dust is now infecting downstairs as well as new pipes are going in. The plumbers reckon they'll be all done today though which is amazing, putting me well ahead of schedule, especially if I can get the sparky to come tomorrow.
In today's edition of The Festival Of The Dust, the sparky's assistant has just cut through one of the water pipes, for some added fun. I'm hoping the plumber can come and sort that out today (they were planning to come anyway), otherwise I'm going to have a very dry long weekend!
Update: plumbers are coming just after lunch, phew.
Plumbers are here and the water's coming back on!
The sparkys are all done now except for hooking up the oven and stove, which I think brings the Brick Dust stage of the Dust Festival to a close.
All the kit, except the new fridge, arrived yesterday and is ready to be put together next week. With some luck, I should have a functional kitchen back by next weekend. The tiling and flooring may take a few weeks more to sort out.
The Construction Phase has now begun. We've got a couple of days of lego plus tetris then I should have the basics of a functional kitchen by early next week.
Starting to look a bit like a kitchen again.
We have bench!
We have functioning stove and oven plus tiles, and shiny new fridge! Grout for the tiles, plus installation of the sink, tap and rangehood happening tomorrow.
Oh boy. The induction stovetop has a personality defect that requires it to beep way too loudly whenever you touch it, even to slightly adjust the temperature. Why do they do this?
Thankfully, the fridge seems to only beep at me if I leave the door open for a long time and the oven is manual knobs (the main reason I chose that model).
@jonlawrence Now for the plumberโs assistant to cut the electrical wires?
Circle of life?
