actually, I think fursuits and their owners have a worrying tendency to totalize the "furry community" as it exists. there are great numbers of people for whom furry has nothing to do with the expensive carpets, and treating "fursuiting" as interchangeable with "furry" has mainly negative effects:
* people who don't engage with fursuiting feel that furry is not "theirs" and disconnect from the stuff they DO engage with
* "furry" becomes a commodity that is subject to economic forces
the expensive carpets will always get cheaper, one way and another. people will never stop imagining dog-people.
