#AskFedi How can I tell what wattage of bulb to use on an unlabeled lamp?

It's a freestanding floor lamp with a twist switch, off and 3 levels of illumination, iirc.

We removed the bulb for moving. Now I want to use it, but I can't find a wattage sticker anywhere.

If I get an LED does it even matter?

@solitha it shouldn’t matter if you go LED - they use a fraction of the power incandescents do. The “wattage” measurement can roughly be compared to maximum brightness these days so there is minimal risk to using a bulb with a higher wattage equivalent if it’s LED.

@tcatsuko To the rescue once again. Thank you so much!

It's a 90s-era lamp, so I wanted to be sure I was using it safely.

@solitha Since it has different brightness levels just make sure you’re using a dimmable LED bulb or it will just flicker like crazy at the lower brightness levels

@tcatsuko I figured it needed to be specifically for dimmer-switch lights, but I didn't know what effect it would have.

Ironically, that would be the same issue I'm using the lamp as a workaround for, until such a time as an electrician can check out the overhead light fixture.
