@sixcolors FileVault used to be the only encryption on Mac drives, I used it & dutifully wrote down the key for every Mac I setup in an encrypted Note. Newer Mac drives are encrypted by default so FileVault seems superfluous, thanks for the explanation of why you might need it anyway. Just cleaned off an Intel/T2 16” MBP to give to my son-in-law & Tahoe Settings said FileVault was on without me doing anything? Is it now turned on by default when setting up a new Mac? I’m confused 🙁
