After I’ve been struggling to motivate myself for work I’ve decided to set an end to this, make better use of my time and rather than drowning myself in guilt and pity go hiking instead. You’ll find me on Sörmlandsleden the coming weeks. Plan is to do all the 600km of the main track. We’ll see how it goes.

Met my friend again. Just when I left home. 💕
Home sweet home
Waiting for dinner to be ready
Sörmland’s forest art

Need to get past Södertälje today. Not my favorite stretch. Thus I’m treating myself with a burger at my favorite place.

The burger was fantastic. As always.

Home sweet home. It was another long day. But shorter than I thought. There’s a spot next to a recycling facility which is quite noisy but otherwise beautiful. It’s not as loud as I feared and I’ve got ear plugs.

A young(?) female(?) moose(?).

Swedish “streetart” again
Was another tough day. On the yay side, had my first bird bath and now I feel at least somewhat fresh and clean again.
Gear failure. Either my phone or my power bank is shit. Something drained all my batteries. So now I have to be very conservative. Leaving the phone off most of the day. 😒

Lucky me, not completely unexpected, found a power outlet to remedy my situation. Sort of.

Another beautiful camp spot, took another bird bath and washed my clothes.

Yesterday was rather challenging, got into hard rain and thunderstorms while being very exposed. Kept on raining until nightfall. Managed to pitch tarp and hammock nonetheless without anything getting wet. Little proud of myself. Had a fantastic spot and could watch birds all morning, after a 12 hours sleep. No pics for obvious reasons.
Dinner time
Don’t wanna leave this place. Can’t I just be lazy today and listen to birds all day?

Wolf 🐺

There’s even some pieces of bones in it. 😱

Soon! 🤤

Made it to Malmköping. Lady at the front desk of the camping lets me charge my power bank. 🥰
Lost my little blue beloved ditty bag. 😭😫🤬
Having pizza. Their “Pizza Italia” 🇮🇹 is with shrimps 🍤 and pineapple 🍍, just so you know what type of place this is. 🤪

Sent home almost half a kilo (420g) of stuff that I don’t need.

Somehow it’s always like that, I tend to overpack for no good reason despite being oh so weight conscious. And then on trail I notice every unnecessary gram.

#ultralight #ul #ultralightBackpacking

Omg, got it back *mwah*

Lost it at the campground when I left my power bank to charge.

But then I plugged in the power bank with the wrong port and now it didn’t charge at all 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Would have been too nice. I hate this new power bank!

Childhood dream?
A squirrel 🐿️ a day keeps the doctor away (sorry, no pic)

The spot with a beautiful view on the lake, but awfully exposed and it’s gusts of 10m/s right now, or the sheltered one next to the outhouse? 🤷‍♂️

That spot (the latter) is also heavily infested by ants 🐜

All hail to hammocks!

One of my favorite places on trail, the bogs around Hälleforsnäs.

Plucked four ticks off of my body yesterday 🤯
All of my equipment plus myself is so full of birch pollen I think I’m slowly turning into one.

Today was mostly just clear cuts. 30km of devastation. The dark side of Sweden.

#deforestation #skogsindustrin

But I managed to take a bath and clean not just myself but also my underwear. There was a school class hogging the place with like 20 tents and one even caught me changing. 🫣
@zeank that's typically logging practice around here too. Always heartbreaking.
@zeank
I woke up once with the out side of the inner tent crowded by huge red ants seeking a way into the tent.
@zeank
Do you want to name it so we know to avoid it?

@PaddelBanditen well, I might be doing it some injustice. But fwiiw it’s the new Flextail 10.000 mAh.

Downloaded the manual now and I understand it a bit better. It has two modes for charging. Fast and slow. I tried activating the slow mode but instead activated fast mode. I’ll give it another try now but things look more promising.

@PaddelBanditen Also, it stops at 10% charge left and keeps that as an emergency reserve I’ve now learned… so it looks empty but isn’t. 😒🤦‍♂️
@PaddelBanditen the charging port is marked orange, now I know that too …
@zeank
Ah, it looks cute on pics and specs. But probably not enough for me to want to switch.
@zeank nice!
I once forgot important parts of my tent on a camp site (it was actually a meadow from a swimming pool where I was allowed to camp). I only realized it after nearly a days hike and knew I would never make it back to it with the heavy backpack on me. So I hid the big backback in some random shed I found. Did go back all the way, got the parts for the tent back and then again to the shed and the big backpack was also still there.
I was so happy that this worked out.

@Shi omg, what a nightmare! Things that happen, but shouldn’t.

The second night on this trip I forgot the suspension straps to my hammock on the trees. Luckily I noticed (magically) just after half an hour of hiking.

@zeank I like that you only have the things with you that are actually important while hiking. If it is not important, it will be lost on the way or sorted out. At the end you only keep the things, that are absolutly essential for your survival, your health and the goal you want to reach.

@zeank

When you use power banks on the trail you have to charge just enough.

While your phone is plugged into the power bank your phone runs at full power thinking it has unlimited wall power. If you plug your phone into your bank and leave it overnight your phone will suck down the power all night long.

I charge my phone starting at dinner time to about %85-95 then unplug it. I may read or watch a movie then I turn it off until morning.

@HikerGeek this was never a problem with my old power bank though 🤷‍♂️

Also typically, since it’s an iPhone it stops charging at 80%. But this didn’t happen that time either.

So yeah, guess I’ll have to be more on my tiptoes from now on.

@zeank

Although everything now takes a USB-C plug to charge, the charging chips vary now both on the charger side and device side. That is still kind of a mess. If your old bank had a USB-A port and this one has a USB-C port that might explain the issue. The newer USB-C is "smarter" and can deliver higher current which might mean faster draining

I'm a Android use so forgive me for not knowing this but iPhones only charge to %80? I had an iPhone a long time ago for work and it charged to %100

@HikerGeek it’s a setting to extend battery life. It charges until 80% and then later, before you usually get up it charges fully to 100%. But then at least my old power bank sort of disconnected the phone and it would only charge further once you plug it in again. Maybe the old power bank (Nitecore) wasn’t as shitty as I thought.
@HikerGeek the old one had both, USB-A and C. The new one (Flextail) is USB-C only. Another aspect I don’t like. But the updated Nitecore is the same in this regard.

@zeank

You might want to try a USB-C charge only cable.

I also have to charge my InReach which is Micro-USB. I carry, for my old banks, a USB-A to multi 6 inch cable (Lightning, Micro-USB and USB-C heads)

There are ones for USB-C banks. I haven't used this one. More for example. But one of the USB-C heads is charge only. Might fix your issue. It does not say iPhone compatible though.

I like the very short cable. Less tangle and lighter.
