I wish you could get a decent phone that is pocket-sized. How much we have lost in the last decade.

The phone duo-culture is so bad. It extends even to the world of "free" / secured phones, where even these are based on Android. (With a few exceptions of Linux phones, which are an odd choice because you can't rely on them for any of the things you need a phone for today, such as banking.)

Android is a non-starter for me not because of Google, but because it sucks very badly in terms of fit and finish. (If you @ me disputing this, I will just block you rather than engage.) iOS is getting worse, but it would take a decade at current rates of decline to become as bad as Android.

Anyway, the stranglehold that Apple and Google have on the phone market, abetted by institutions like banks and government, is very frustrating and demoralising.

@jonmsterling I cannot describe the epiphany I had when I got myself a Google Pixel 8 and installed Graphene OS a few years ago. Suddenly, this felt like my phone again. And the loss of convince was very low. i would never go back.
