On #Facebook and #Instagram, #Meta is blocking #NGOs and #HumanRights activists from reaching their audience in #SaudiArabia and the #UAE.

Since March 2026 alone, more than 100 Facebook pages and Instagram accounts have been restricted, despite Meta claiming to have conducted "human rights assessments".

A dozen organizations signed an open letter that demands

• the publication of what those countries requested, and what were the results of the "assessments" ;

• to lift the restrictions of the affected accounts;

• and to tell the account owners why exactly their accounts were restricted, in the first place: which laws were broken, by which content?

The organizations also demand to know more about the collaboration of Meta's local offices in the region with the respective governments.
