A bad hair day

A soggy male splendid fairywren (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Splendid_fairywren) at Banyowla Regional Park near Perth, Australia

I know how he feels, but without the plumage.

It’s beautiful, but photos like this always make me a little sad. There was a time when we could "trust" what we saw; now, with LLMs, I can’t help but wonder whether an image like this is 100% real or not.

@booboo @Wen For starters, it would help, if we actually l i n k e d to the content we find worth sharing.

@katzentratschen @booboo That was not the source of the photo when I saw it. I simply like it, and credited the photographer.

@Theriac I hope that anyone whose obsession with purity prevents them from citing their sources properly ends up falling for some dirty AI slop. @Wen @booboo

We'd probably get along on discussing AI, but you're inferring the OP acted in bad faith while appearing to insist people visit a predatory website.

Instagram and data privacy are mutually exclusive.
Google and facebook laid the legal foundations for data robbing, which simply pushed boundaries of the grey area of profiting off the backs of creatives enough that AI found its space.

So lets not conflate not wanting to visit a closed predatory website with AI practices. AI couldn't give a tinker's cuss about
its user data, where as I, a human, do.

@Theriac At no point I said or implied OP was acting in bad faith. @booboo commented: "There was a time when we could 'trust' what we saw; now, with LLMs, I can’t help but wonder whether an image like this is 100% real or not." To which I offered a way to rebuild trust: link to your sources. The thread could have ended then and there. @Wen

Edit: Fixed mixed up mentions.
