It's really hard as a parent of a preteen to get on their case for age-normal misbehavior. You're struggling not to laugh because if you send the wrong message it might indicate some things are appropriate when they are not.
But at the same time, you were that age once and got into equally dubious trouble.
They need the space to make mistakes, so that you have the opportunity to guide them through it. If they never make these mistakes at all, then they have no guidance.
