I'm just going to have to buy a pelmenitsa, because the quality of the local frozen pelmeni has gone precipitously downhill. It is not enough to turn into my mother. I will have to turn into my grandmother.

@evacide

we got one about 6 months ago and it's been in regular use since. we keep making bigger batches in the hopes of having some to freeze but we keep eating them all. ;)

5 stars, would totally recommend making your own pelmeni.

@evacide Curious to know your seasoning for the filling, also meat or veggie?
@upstartbear Chicken or beef. Sometimes with a little bit of mushroom.
@evacide they appear to be much like kreplach?
Also, all dumplings are good!
@jongary agreed! Across cultures and cuisines, dumplings are delicious!

@evacide I had never heard of these. Now I'll have to find a place near me which serves them.

Looks like Hansen's Law: "What the child wishes to forget, the grandchild wishes to remember."

@evacide We started doing that for Lefse (think "potato tortilla") after the pair of grandmas we usually got it from "retired for real." We tried a different supplier, but it was way too thick, so we had to break out my great-grandma's old rolling pin and griddle and learn to make it Properly.
@evacide becoming ancestors will continue until morale improves

@evacide Why not just buy Turkish mantı? 🤔 Some Greek garlic yogurt to go with it. Add some roasted tomato paste with butter and cooked mantı water, season well — voilà, a delicious delight. Mix and enjoy 😋 👌

They all come from China anyway, I think. xD

Tri-color tortelloni with cheese filling and cheese sauce is also banger.
