So when I was in #NewOrleans three years ago visiting my lovely daughter, I ended up at the Mahogany Jazz Hall on Chartres and spent the evening with some fantastic local jazz and knocking back Sazeracs. Now after obtaining a bottle of absinthe and some proper Peychaud's, I'm trying to recreate those drinks, if not the #jazz , at the home bar.

Jury is decidedly out. I'm subbing in bourbon for rye and I think that might be a mistake. There's a supposedly very good local rye that I'd like to try once I get the cash money for it. Tried the New York thing and added brandy, which is good but it wasn't what I had. Admittedly, trying to recreate something that well-crafted is like running out on stage in hiking boots and trying to tap-dance with Gene Kelly, but hope springs eternal and I have the strength of madness. If you spot me wobbling down the street monologuing about the relative merits of Miles Davis's mid-period catalog from Birth of the Cool to Bitches' Brew, you'll know I probably got it right.
