Queen Liliʻuokalani (September 1, 1838 - November 11, 1917) was the first queen regent and the last monarch of the Hawaiian Kingdom. She was forced to abdicate her throne and was placed under house arrest in 1895 but was pardoned in 1898 when the USA formally annexed the islands of Hawaii.
