'the RBA is raising interest rates to make more people unemployed, in a heavy-handed attempt to tackle potential future inflation, Treasury is revising down expenditure in Jobseeker, claiming there will be a 3.8 per cent drop or saving of $700 million over two years'

Focus on broken promise means we miss the real budget cruelty

Labor is having a fight where it feels it holds higher ground, and there has been less attention on parts of the budget that are not as fair.

@oscarjiminy being forced to grudgingly put in place a few progressive policies doesn't make a progressive government.

@crouton yeah, i think the view these days is that progressivism no longer has the broadly positive connotations it used to have

in fact it's always had mixed connotations, people used to say you can't stop progress when some irreversible development's taken place

there's an undertone of irony in that context

@oscarjiminy I know one person I'd like to see unemployed. She works at the RBA...

#auspol

@Bot4Sale nominating anyone to replace her who might behave any differently..?

@oscarjiminy TBH I'd like to see the entire RBA revamped to do something useful for our economy but baby steps.

#auspol

@Bot4Sale yeh that's more like it
