Teaching assistant convicted for sexually abusing a young boy in her care

A teaching assistant from Bury, Terri Cook, has been sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison for sexually abusing a young boy in her care. The abuse came to light after a member of the public reported seeing Cook with the child, prompting an investigation by Greater Manchester Police. Authorities found that Cook had groomed the boy over nine months, exchanging numerous messages that encouraged sexual activity, and had indecent images of the child. She also bought the boy expensive gifts, exploiting his vulnerability. In court, the victim’s mother spoke about the profound impact the abuse has had on her son's life, emphasizing that Cook abused her position of trust and manipulated the child despite being aware of his past trauma. Cook pleaded guilty to eight sexual offense charges. The case was handled by GMP’s Child Protection Investigation Unit (CPIU), which aims to protect young people and has recently increased its rate of solved cases. Detective Sergeant Adam Stanfield highlighted the courage of the victim and his family, and reaffirmed the police's commitment to supporting all victims, including male victims, of sexual abuse.
