What if tech tried making things for users instead of investors
@cory Why do you think I love the open source community so dang much? Because they’re only has to be money in it if people want to. Our society has a problem with believing that everything has to be monetized, and if it’s not, then the value of it goes right out 1000 windows. i’m an independent politically, but I absolutely hate capitalism. I hate all of the’s that currently exist right now.

@cory Over the years, I’ve developed a shorthand for features built for leadership using the initials of said leader. It’s not a P1 or P0 request, it’s a P-JD request (Jane Doe).

Sadly, I was told no when I tried to actually make that a priority in our Jira instance.

@ryanboswell 😆 I *love* that idea. If it's important and a valid request then there's no harm in the transparency
@cory I didn’t say they were all valid requests 😁 but it does help grease the wheels when I have to tell other people why their thing (esp. when there is potential user value) got punted.

@ryanboswell Oh I figured basically none were 😆 But if they really want it they should have to own it publicly and provide context for those legitimate requests that got deprioritized.

That or you modify their hosts file to point to a staging environment you can pump slop into.

@cory I have considered a version of that hosts file trick more times than I can count.
@ryanboswell “Look at how fast we’re shipping!”
